Vaela and Micah are ownvoices authors in the SFF, dark fantasy and paranormal genre. Their specific focus is queerness, mental health, and the beauty of monstrosity and the Other. They write queer stories that are not defined by their relationship to queerphobia, non-colonial worlds that do not rely on systemic oppression for conflict, and love in all its forms. Together they aim to do their part to open the door for normalisation of diversity in fantasy, to destigmatise of mental health in fiction and build community with BIPOC as well as fellow queer and disabled people, readers and authors.

A lot of the themes and subjects in the books are very close to the authors’ hearts, and many are informed by personal experience. While some still face rewrites, readers are encouraged to peruse the content notes and Dear Reader section of each book to ensure they do not encounter any material they find triggering or offensive. Within reason, of course, as any and all requests to add queerness, ethnicities of characters, or neurodivergence to content warnings will be met with blanket silence.

Vaela and Micah will always try their best and do their due diligence to not profit off the experiences and struggles of other communities, as well as represent members of marginalised communities they aren’t a part of as respectfully and honestly as possible. But learning about oppression and non-colonial, anti-orientalist writing and practises is a process, one that can take a lifetime, and even the most well-meaning of people are not immune to their own biases. As such they welcome any criticism regarding the portrayal of marginalized communities in their books.

This site contains information on their books, most of which is available within their pages, along with a short author bio, upcoming releases, and a lore section for both the themes of the books and the in-world lore.
There is also a button to sign up to their rare newsletter, which allows readers access to their Reader Magnet, and will alert them in regards to new releases and ARC announcements.
